CAMERA NOTES: Panasonic HDC-TM700 (a high definition video camera)
Before you shoot, make sure your battery is fully charged. You can determine this by turning the camera on, opening the viewfinder and pushing the DISP/BATT INFO button on the body of the camera. A graphic of a battery on the viewfinder will come on showing how full the battery is charged. To the right of the battery-graphic will be something like 48min - the approximate number of minutes the battery has left. If the battery is depleted, it may take a couple of hours to fully charge.
When youre finished charging the battery, open the viewfinder. Open the black flap labeled HDMI, SD CARD and AV MULTI. Insert your SD card into the largest slot you see. SD cards can be purchased at your friendly neighborhood SD card store or Walgreens, or Best Buy, or Target, or Amazon you could probably get away with a 2GB card, but you might want a 4GB, 8GB or a 16GB. A 2GB card shooting at HA1920 quality will give you about 15 minutes of recording time on this high definition video camera. The higher numbers are just bigger storage meaning more available time in the field shooting. A 4GB card will probably give you roughly 30 minutes of recording time, etc. The class of card determines the speed of the data-rate. I tested a Class 2 card and it was fine.
With your open viewfinder, find the button up towards the lens, the button with the word DOLBY next to it. This is the on/off button. Turn on your camera.
If you are using a brand new card, you may have to format your card: on the viewfinder, press the MENU button, select SETUP, scroll to FORMAT MEDIA, select SD CARD. When the screen says, FORMATTING CARD WILL ERASE ALL CONTENTS. DO YOU WANT TO CONTINUE? Press YES. When the formatting is complete, exit the menu.
Press MENU on the viewfinder.
Press MEDIA SELECT on the screen.
Under VIDEO, press SD CARD. The SD CARD box will be outlined in yellow if it is properly selected. Press ENTER.
Press and hold down the button labeled 1080/60p.
If you see this message on the viewfinder: RECORD IN 1080/60p MODE FOR BEST QUALITY WHEN PLAYING BACK ON THIS UNIT... then wait a moment or two while the viewfinder resets.
Then press and hold down the button labeled 1080/60p again. Now you should this message on the viewfinder: CANCEL 1080/60p RECORDING.
You are ready to record.
Press the F in the lower left corner of the screen. This will give you further options on the screen FOCUS, WB, SHTR, IRIS. FOCUS will let you toggle between automatic focus and manual focus. WB will let you select automatic white balance and other exposure options as will IRIS and SHTR.
